Well now that Yukon is "Feature-locked" (June CTP) I thought it was about time I get it installed and tried it out. Alas because the June CTP uses a newer release of the .NET 2.0 framework it wont install if you have Beta 2 or earlier builds of the .NET framework. So heres how to do it:
Remove Previous Installations of SQL Server 2005
You need to remove any of these you already have installed from the Add/Remove Programs list:
- Microsoft SQL Server Yukon Beta 1 (farrrr too old.. it still has .NET 1.2 as the framework!)
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 & CTPs
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools Beta 2 & CTPs
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Data Transformation Services Beta 2 & CTPs
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services Beta 2 & CTPs
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Notification Services Beta 2 & CTPs
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Beta 2 & CTPs
- Microsoft SQL Server Setup Support Files
- Microsoft SQL Native Access Client(SNAC)
Also any Express versions that come from Whidbey/Express editions that relate to SQL Server 2005
Remove .NET Framework and SNAC
- Goto the "\Setup Tools\Build Uninstall Wizard" on the DVD (I use Alcohol and mount the ISO)
- Run sqlbuw.exe
- Click Next thrice making sure you agree to checkboxes etc
- Where you select what to remove tick both the .NET Framework and SNAC.
- Let it uninstall
- Restart if it tells you to (on my XP machine I didnt need to but on a 2K machine I had to)
Now install the June CTP Release and Whidbey will work and play nicely with the new .net framework...
Not sure about express builds, havent touched any express builds.
