Australian Customs Pup (RSS)

Training/Progress of our current Australian Customs Breeding Program pups.

Blog moved to WordPress and new domain...

I've moved my blog to my own domain and onto a WordPress engine, CS + SPAM was driving me nuts!

Catchup posts: Oh yes, I've been in Japan for a couple of months, first 2 weeks of photos are uploaded on Flickr, I still havent had a chance to upload the thousands after.

Whats more, I've actually written some information about me so you can finally find out my sad sad way of life. See About Thushan Fernando.

Update on Zeus and our new Rabbit Fluffy!

Its been a while since i posted anything about our beloved Zeus - the Australian Customs Pup we adopted. We'll the once innocent-cute-little-pup is now a naughty-cuter-big-pup. He's grown so much compared to the older photo's we've got of him.

Notice how he's eaten through his doggy tag (the pink tag on his collar!)
He's scoring very well on his tests, and loves to chew things up, just today he chewed through his leech (into three pieces now!) and loves to destroy things. So far:
  • *ALL* the toys Customs and we have given (Soft toys, hard chewable toys)
  • Chewed through fences like the one in this photo
  • Chewed through lots of clothes and more-so pegs before we fenced that area off (see above shot)
  • Infiltrated the fenced off areas near the fence, infact he eats through the mesh and loves to pull out our sprinkler systems.
  • Eaten countless pots
  • Chewed parts of his Kennel plastic
  • The comfy cushion we bought for him has no fluff inside (one day I awoke to find the entire backyard full of while fluff, I thought it had snowed!) He still takes it around with him - its like his blanky - and sleeps on the non-fluffy cushion:D
  • Eaten a few slippers - he loves to steal them from us and make us chase him.
He's also picked up the habbit of moaning & whinging alot if he doesnt get enough attention, its cute but annoying sometimes. Loves to go on walks (he's so excited when he sees his leash that his paws cant stop moving), same goes with food.

Fluffy our new Pet Rabbit

Whats the one thing you dont want to give your kids during Easter? A monkey? A Chimp? Nope, a rabbit! Mom brought a rabbit from work - work-college gives away rabbits every year for easter and mom's been promising for a while to accept one. So we named her fluffy. She's a bit of a scardy-cat (as all young rabbits are) but loves to eat food. Some photo's uploaded on Flickr. Zeus loves to bark at Fluffy when she goes past him but its starting to wear out. We built Fluffy a house as well (well dad did, i'll post shots of that later - knowing me in a few weeks/months:D)

Photo's of Zeus, our Australian Customs Pup uploaded

Some cute shots of Zeus our Customs pup we're looking after/training got uploaded to Flickr.

We got Zeus when he was around 10 Weeks (usually its 8 Weeks, but due to my 21st, building fences around our backyard etc we delayed it), he was the first labrador we'd looked after (Golden Retrievers before that). Right now he's 4 1/2 months, scoring well on his monthly tests that customs do (quite high marks!) but unfortunately a little stubborn.

What are you doing with a Australian Customs Pup?
Well we decided to adopt a customs pup because we miss having a dog, I needed a hobby that didnt involve looking at a monitor and needed to get myself to be somewhat more fit than I am currently. This is all volunteer work, Customs does the bulk of the work - food (strict diet), vaccinations etc. We just take care of him, train him basic doggy stuff and let him socialise with other dogs, animals and people (shopping center's etc)... Its loads of fun. Right now he's starting to make the most of his new teeth by eating through all his toys (white fluff everywhere outside!) and digging holes, making cute moaning noises when he wants attention and *LOVES* to play keep-things-off-zeus, cricket (he loves to field...) and the occasional soccer.

If your an aussie and want to look after a customs pup give the Australian Customs Services a ring and ask them for more info, its definately worth the effort!
